Children with disability deserve the same educational and social opportunities as everyone else. For Spencer, who has Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, having access to assistive technology and adaptive play spaces is crucial as it ensures he can fully participate in group therapy programs and learn skills to independently navigate the community when he’s out and about.

Spencer is a happy 5-year-old who has been part of the Northcott family since he was less than a year old. He loves superheroes and enjoys therapy sessions with superhero themes that spark his imagination. Watch his amazing story below.

Spencer needs specialised disability supports to engage with his family during mealtimes, play in his playroom, and safely get around in the community. Thanks to the therapy team at Northcott, he now has a power wheelchair, a backup manual chair, a supportive car seat, and portable sleeping and seating equipment.

Having access to these assistive aids gives Spencer the opportunity to interact with friends and engage in inclusive playful activities. However, he still needs accessible therapy play spaces where he can learn the skills he needs to be able to play with his friends at school and in the community. 

Like Spencer, many children with disability rely on assistive technology and adaptive play spaces to reach their full potential. They need a chance to play and participate in group therapies as it opens up healthy behavioural and social skills that are vital later in adulthood.
