Small ideas that spark big impact!

We need your urgent support to fund groundbreaking Research & Innovation.

Northcott Innovation (NI) was seeded in 2014, when Northcott dreamt to create a small agile team dedicated to finding new and innovative ways to support people with disability. For more information about NI, check out their website.

Donate now to support A Good Life tool

A Good Life tool is an innovative tool for visualising the lives of people with complex support needs, such as those living in supported care environments. This tool enables support teams to identify opportunities to enhance an individual's enjoyment of activities.

Furthermore, it has the potential to capture additional crucial information related to each activity including risk assessment, complexity evaluation, required level of support and funding needs.

We have developed an initial prototype the tool that effectively visualises the daily experiences of individuals with disabilities, highlighting the level of enjoyment they derive from various activities.

Your support today will help us develop a robust version of the tool that can be used with ease across the disability and aged care sectors.

Take a look at the prototype

Through the prototype we can already see significant values and outcomes - bringing to life how small changes can make huge differences to the richness of individual lives.

The Need for A Good Life

In Australia, approximately 17,000 individuals with complex disabilities reside in supported and specialised disability accommodation, including 450 individuals supported by Northcott across over 100 disability houses.

Like any other household, group homes present a variety of interconnected challenges, with a fundamental issue being the delicate balance between quality of life and the intricacies of health support in these settings. This includes addressing risks, complexities, funding considerations, and shaping staff and participants' expectations regarding what constitutes a 'good' life and how active support is pivotal for improvement.

It will shape our approach to providing the right level of assistance, empowering individuals to engage in the richness of life activities and
opportunities of their choosing, and ultimately fostering a sense of independence and engagement.

The brightest ideas are made possible through your generosity!
