Freija is a bright and bubbly 10-year-old who has been accessing therapy services at Northcott’s Gold Coast centre since she was four.

Freija has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy along with a rare genetic condition that makes everyday tasks a challenge, but she’s never lost her determination.

Freija has achieved many developmental milestones. After years of continuous practice through physiotherapy sessions that improved her strength, mobility, and coordination, she took her first steps at the age of six. Today, she can walk unaided and even climb up and down a small flight of stairs using only one handrail. Her progress has been incredible! Watch Freija's story below.

Through regular physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions, Freija has developed essential self-care skills, becoming more independent in dressing, eating, and getting ready for school.

Additionally, through speech therapy, she is growing in her ability to connect with others. With access to assistive technology, she can now interact with people, form phrases and express her thoughts and needs.

The spaces Freija uses at Northcott are critical to her ongoing development. She needs tailored equipment, sensory items and a fun, inviting environment to practice climbing and navigating obstacles, while also developing her self-care and communication skills.
