Meet Sara!
Give this November and your donation will be doubled!
This NEON NOVEMBER, we are counting on you to help us enhance Northcott’s Places & Spaces. Your donations will help us create fun, accessible environments, ensuring people with disability have all they need to thrive in life.
Can you lend your hand in support of teens with disability like Sara, who rely on Northcott’s programs and services to practice their social skills and develop new friendships?
Sara is a lovely 16-year-old who has accessed therapy and Skills 4 Life at Northcott for over two years. She was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum and Cerebellar Ataxia. Although she faced challenges with social interactions and forming new friendships, she has made incredible progress and achieved many personal goals after attending Skills 4 Life. Watch her story below.
Sara has made strong connections with support workers, therapists, and the program coordinator, all of whom collaborate with her family, creating strategies that support her social and emotional well-being. Making friends and connecting with others is vital for feeling supported and understood. These social connections allow us to become part of the community, participate in new experiences, and enjoy life more fully. However, many teens like Sara need support fitting into social settings and activities.
Skills 4 Life has become a safe and welcoming environment for her. This is where she regularly interacts with her friends, who may also have similar goals to build and maintain friendships.
“Sara has been loving Skills 4 Life. It has helped her come out of her shell and socialise. She looks forward to coming every week and meeting her friends and has now developed friendships outside of the group as well. She’s even attended two birthday parties so far!” - Sandra, Sara’s mum.
With your help, we can enhance Northcott’s Places & Spaces to ensure Sara and her peers have all they need to reach their goals. By donating to NEON NOVEMBER, your generosity will help us create:
- Flexible outdoor program zones where Sara and her friends can explore cooking and enjoy social time together in a supportive and comfortable space.
- Chill-out spaces that serve as sanctuaries for relaxation and emotional regulation, offering a calming environment for those feeling over-stimulated.
Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference! Will you get your NE-ON this November and donate to help people with disability live brighter, more fulfilling lives? Thank you for giving generously.
