How Do You SHINE?

Northcott Life Skills Programs empower young people with disability to build independence and self-confidence. These programs have played a crucial role in many journeys toward greater autonomy.
Through activities such as cooking, art, and gardening, Northcott support workers and coordinators help young people develop practical skills that truly change lives—giving them the freedom to live more independently.
These are the kinds of powerful transformations your generosity makes possible.
We’ve met many inspiring individuals who have achieved their goals and are now thriving. One of them is Sidny, a passionate young woman whose joy and determination light up every room she enters.

Let's find out more about Sidny

Sidny is a passionate 27-year-old artist whose determination and creativity inspires everyone around her.
She has a joy and love for everything she does, including painting, crocheting, making jewellery and most recently photography. This is where she shines and has been working towards making her passions her livelihood.

Sidny carries her crochet kit everywhere and is ready to work on her projects at any quiet moment she has available. Her dad supports her work, and he always asks what she’s making next, offering more ideas. Together they celebrate every creation.
Speaking about her everyday challenges, Sidny said:
“I don’t let my disability define me and stop me from doing what I love!”.
Though for Sidny, creativity alone is not enough. She wants to have confidence. She wants independence. She wants to feel safe in her own home and able to do things on her own.
This is where you, and Northcott, have played such an important part in her journey.
Through Northcott Life Skill Programs, Sidny has learned for example to use the oven safely from her wheelchair, learning how to open the door, where to position the tray, how to avoid burns and work safely.
Skills like these have changed Sidny’s life.

Your gift today will help ensure that young adults with disability can access programs resources and equipment that build confidence and empower them to reach their goals.
When you support Northcott, you are giving a person with disability the opportunity to grow their skills and believe in themselves.

TWICE the IMPACT, TWICE the CHANGE.

This International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, your generosity can go twice as far!

Thanks to our incredible Matching Heroes, every donation will be doubled. Your gift of $50 becomes $100, creating double the impact for young people with disability.

By joining our IDPwD 2025 celebration, you’ll help young people with disability build confidence, skills, and independence — and show them that they have a community cheering them on every step of the way.
