“I have learned how to write and build a resume, what to say and not to say in a job interview, and how to behave and work with people in a workplace.”
Lloyd also got the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at the Northcott Library to help him achieve his dream of becoming the State Librarian at The State Library of NSW.
“I’ve enjoyed libraries since I was in primary school. The librarian gave me a couple of jobs at lunchtime, and I helped her out with those. And then when it came to high school, I got bullied quite severely by a couple of older boys, a whole group of them in fact. I sought the library as a refuge to escape them and the librarian started giving me jobs. After I left school, I really aspired to become a librarian.”
“I've learned a lot under Judi’s direction. I am starting to get a hang of how shelving, filing, cataloguing, and archiving are done. I also found the motivation to enrol myself in Certificate 3 course at TAFE course,” adds Lloyd.
“I am clearer about what I should be doing to get a job. This program has made it all coherent for me. I now know how to write a resume, to search jobs on websites such as Seek, Indeed and Jora. I never knew that before, even though in school we did learn about that sort of thing, but I just really didn't understand it. But now I do after Life After School,” says Lloyd.
Lloyd is keen on progressing his studies in Library Information Services while trying to secure a job in council libraries.
“I am currently trying to find a job in the council libraries. In a couple of weeks, I’ll move on to Certificate 4 and would like to complete a diploma next year. Once I finish that, I will start to consider a university degree as that will broaden my chances of securing my dream job.”
Great work Lloyd!
