Your donation has an incredible impact on children with disability who rely on Northcott to learn the skills they need to communicate, grow, and thrive. With your generosity this Christmas, children like Kaianue will have access to life-changing therapies and resources that open up new possibilities for their future.

"Since commencing therapy, Kaianue has learnt how to use Key Word Sign (KWS) to spontaneously communicate his wants, needs and preferences across multiple environments. Alongside KWS, he and his family are in the process of learning and trialling LAMP which is a high-tech communication system. A massive recent win is that he is beginning to verbalise more!" - Zara, Northcott Senior Speech Pathologist.

Kaianue is an active and playful 3-year-old who loves riding bikes and spending time with his family. He has been diagnosed with mild right hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy - a condition characterised by slight difficulty in movement, balance and muscle coordination.

Kaianue started coming to Northcott in 2022.  Through combined physio and speech therapy sessions and a tailored exercise program at Northcott, he has now made significant progress. His gross motor and communication skills have improved tremendously.

When Kaianue first started physiotherapy, he was unable to walk without support. Through continuous and intensive therapy at Northcott, he has achieved greater physical independence and participates in many play-based activities.

The focus of his therapy sessions is to improve his balance, stability and gross motor skills so he can continue to reach new developmental milestones and fully engage with his friends, family and those in the community.

Like Kaianue, many children with disability require urgent therapy, resources and personalised programs that support their overall growth. Your donations mean they will receive the extra support and assistive aids they need to build their skills for life at school and in everyday activities.

Kaianue has also been working on his communication goals, with the support of his therapists. He uses Key Word Sign and visuals aids to communicate his wants and needs. Although he hasn't started using two-word phrases yet, he has learnt how to choose symbols for words like 'sleep' and 'go' on his communication device so he can make requests and express himself.

Combined therapy sessions have truly benefitted Kaianue, offering a collaborative and play-based approach to learning. These combined sessions seamlessly integrate Kaianue's physiotherapy and communication goals, ensuring there are no gaps in his therapy journey. Each therapy session is fun and engaging, designed to keep him motivated and eager to participate.

Although Kaianue has made incredible progress, this is only the beginning. We need your support to ensure more children with disability receive the ongoing therapy and supports they need to reach their full potential.

Your donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with disability, helping us meet their needs in the most extraordinary way. Thank you for your generosity this festive season.
