Thread Together along with PVH Brands Australia and Tommy Hilfiger showcased their brand new range of adaptive clothing to our attendants and staff at our Parramatta office.
This partnership's goal is to bring comfortable, stylish clothing to people of all abilities promoting inclusivity and accessibility in fashion.
The Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive range is a collection with a focus on functional everyday essentials, with easy-to-dress features that allow people with disabilities to dress themselves in the styles they love.
For the 15% of the world's population who live with some form of disability*, something as simple as getting dressed can be a challenge. Inspired by their experiences and Tommy's personal history of having children with autism, our team has rethought the design process to uncover solutions that work.
Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive puts a new twist on tradition, delivering modern style with innovative modifications that empower people and make dressing easier.
Founded in 2012 by Andie Halas, OAM, when she was working for a lifestyle fashion house. Andie was unable to find a solution for repurposing 100 incorrectly designed beach towels, so they didn’t end up in a landfill. After chatting to other manufacturers, Andie soon realised this was an industry problem, the landfill was not an ethical or sustainable option. Instead redistributing products among the many vulnerable people that needed clothing and accessories would be an ideal solution for end-of-life, new product.
“Our model is very simple. We collect end-of-line brand-new stock from clothing providers. With the support of volunteers, the clothes are sorted by age, gender, and purpose, and then redistributed to people in need through charities and social service agencies across Australia. I think of it as redistributive justice,” says Andie Halas.
